Grey squirrels are not a native species of the UK having been introduced from the USA in the late nineteenth century. The grey squirrel is widespread throughout England and Wales and feed on a wide variety of nuts, fruits, roots, tree shoots etc. They are bigger than the native red squirrel which have been displaced from their natural forest and woodland habitats and are now a rare sight in our countryside.

The grey squirrel breeding season is in the spring and late summer and have become a pest of forestry, parks and gardens. Sometimes found in roof spaces in houses and other buildings where they are not only a nuisance by their nocturnal movements, but may cause damage to electrical wires which may cause potential fire damage.
